Light Garden:
1,000 Year Bloom

The Light Garden: The 1,000 Year Bloom was a large-scale immersive light installation created not only to celebrate the opening of Victoria Ward Park in Honolulu, but also to drive foot traffic and awareness to the growing Ward Village neighborhood. Featuring over 25,000 glowing LED flowers, the experience reimagined the native Hawaiian landscape through a surreal, poetic lens—inviting visitors to wander through a luminous, dreamlike garden. Installed at the future site of Ko‘ula, a luxury residential tower by renowned architect Jeanne Gang, the piece honored the land’s natural history while looking ahead to its evolving future. Designed with synchronized lighting capabilities, the installation served as the backdrop for a live outdoor performance by the Honolulu Philharmonic, who played under the stars for residents and visitors alike. Beyond its artistic impact, The Light Garden functioned as a strategic holiday anchor for the neighborhood—boosting restaurant and retail sales, capturing emails and social impressions, and laying the groundwork for future cultural programming in the developing district. Inspired by the park’s vision of restoring native flora and fauna, the installation blended technology, storytelling, and placemaking to evoke the eternal bloom of the island’s original ecology.
